Client Brief & Context
- The business had outgrown its downstairs manufacturing area; production demand was increasing.
- The current shop layout no longer aligns with brand ambitions or space needs.
- There was unused / under-utilised space at the rear (garage) and above (flat & loft), which the client wished to unlock for residential / studio use.
- The client required the project to be carried out in phases, taking into account budget constraints and aiming to minimise disruption to trade, or a feasible temporary arrangement.
Design Response & Proposed Solution
- Shopfront and Ground Floor Shop Redesign: modernised customer-facing area, improved flow, better brand alignment.
- Garage Conversion: the old garage is transformed into a bespoke bakery — ovens, prep zones, storage — providing the business with increased production capacity.
- Link Extension / Infill: connects the shop to the converted bakery to create a smooth workflow, minimise internal logistical inefficiencies, and rationalise circulation.
- Upper Floors Conversion: the first floor becomes a residential flat; the loft is converted into a studio apartment — adding value and making use of all floors of the building.
- Phased Delivery & Adaptation: design accommodates staged construction and adjusts to the constraints of an older building, responding to structural and spatial limitations.
